We've gone paperless! (mostly)
As of Febrauary 25, 2009, we are using electronic medical records rather than traditional paper charts. This is an exciting but challenging transition for us. It will mean some adaptation of our daily routine, but will allow us to better document your time in our office and better help us to communicate with you and with your family doctor or eye surgeon when needed.
There will still be a need for us to use SOME paper, but we are trying to become as paperless as possible! Please be patient with us during this transition! Thank you.

Le Mars Lions Club GLAUCOMA SCREENING
The Le Mars Lions Club, of which Dr. DeRuyter is a member, held their first annual glaucoma screening on Thursday, May 14, 2009 at Advanced Eye Health. Nearly thirty members of the community had their glaucoma risk assessed at the screening. The service was provided free of charge.
Until approximately 8 years ago, the Iowas Lions had a moblie unit called the "Glaucomamobile" that travelled the state performing glaucoma screenings with volunteer optometrists in each town. A number of factors led to the discontiuation of the Glaucomamobile, so the local club decided to start their own screening this year. Plans are to offer the screening once or twice each year, depending on the response.

FREE Kindergarten Eye Exams, July 28, 2009
Because good vision is so crucial to sucess in school, Dr. DeRuyter feels every child should have at least one comprehensive eye exam before entering kindergarten. To help those students who may otherwise not be able to have an exam, our practice is again offering one day of FREE comprehensive eye and vision exams for students entering kindergarten this fall. In Iowa, schools are now requesting parents bring their soon-to-be kindergartener in for an eye exam. You should have received a green "Student Vision Card" at kindergarten round-up. Bring this card along to your child's exam and we will fill it out for you.
